I think in the broad scheme of things having a MacBook that came in a half dozen colors would complicate things quite a bit. Not to mention more production costs, etc. Apple’s simplicity is one of it’s strong suites. Of course the colors of metal, black and white are very cool and stylish for hardware. Can you imagine a MacPro in iPod Nano Pink – I have a black MacBook and personally I love it much more than the white ones. As someone much wiser than me said KISS -”Keep it simple stupid.”

The ColorWare thing is pretty cool indeed but $650 is a steep premium. For both iMac or MacBook Pro, and no they don’t include any RAM/hard drive/etc upgrades, I checked.

Maybe if there were patterns, or I if one could send an arbitrary image file. But that seems steep for color. Worth it for some, though, I’m sure.

Although the iMac was eventually left in the dust power-wise by its X86 competitors, at the time of its intro in 1998 the 233 MHz G3 was most assuredly NOT “somewhat underpowered”.

Having said that, I’m getting a little tired of white too and I think my aluminum PB will probably get swapped for a black MacBook soon.

I will simply let apple find new ideas and new good designs.

maybe they will use color again or not, and I will see if their new design please me.

for the time forward, I like their computers , aluminum macbook pro is nice and I still dig the imac 24 all white, so pure :)

I would prefer a charcoal gray or even a (product) red version. Or aleast offer the iMacs in the colors that the iPods are offered in. Just IMO. Variety is the spice of life after all.

I disagree with Galley. In fact, I can’t get enough of white Apple products. There are so many peripherals that seem completely out of place with a Mac. I was so annoyed I decided to spray paint my external hard drive to make it match with my iMac. The pictures are on my blog. I’m pretty happy with the way it turned out. Only thing is, not everything can be spray painted.

I miss the candy-colored iMacs and the G3/G4 towers: they were warm to the eyes. Current whites and silvers are somewhat tense, truly Kubrickian.
