First encountered the iHome in a Holiday Inn Express, and was impressed with the sound. After reading this blog i went out and Bought my iHome used, very cheap. Sure enough after almost daily use, I have encountered the AUX issue. Too much in the dock and out.
SO I made my own dock out of modelers clay so it sits perfectly, and have not had to replace the dock connector. Cheap immediate solution for those who can do a little sculpting.

I’m another dissatisfied iHome (specifically, iH5) owner. I will never buy another iHome product again. The iPod won’t play, though it charges just fine. This is basically an glorified digital clock and nothing more. I’ve owned cheap novelty iPod docks that have lasted me for years. I bought this one just 2 months ago and it broke today. Seriously, 2 months of just light use (I have 4 iPod docks) and I’m already having problems with the one I paid the most for?

I’m very displeased and would recommend that music fans looking elsewhere for a quality product. iHome is garbage.

Thats the same problem I had a while ago. I put a piece of paper in to hold the iPod in place. It works perfectly! THIS IS THE SOLUTION.

TO EVERYONE WHO IS HAVING THE “IPOD WONT CHARGE OR PLAY MUSIC AND IS SHOWING ‘AUX’ INSTEAD OF ‘IPOD’ WHEN CONNECTED TO IHOME” PROBLEM:

I have this same problem; it seems that the metal thing that docks your iPod and charges it is out of place. With my iPod, when I dock it, it dosen’t charge or play music, and the charge symbol dosen’t show in the charge (battery) meter. But if I push my iPod forward a little, it works. I just folded up a little piece of paper and put it in between the iPod and the back of the docking thing, and it holds it in place. I just needed something to hold the iPod in place; now it works perfectly. For anyone else who has the same problem I had, maybe this is the solution.

HEY’ well I don’t have most of the problems with the alarm clock as most of you, my concern is that the volume wheel skips numbers and sometimes it goes back and forward for 5 spins, like it is in volume 10 and I turn the wheel to make it louder and it goes back to 9, 8 ,9, 10, 11.
and so on, is there any way I can make it go normal again?

We have three iHomes and will not buy another. Mine will not play any sound, the radio does not play and the ipods will not play. I am not taking this thing apart, and re-wiring it. They know they are selling poorly made trash. The best thing we can do is spread the word that these are trash. The ipod is tiny and sensitive and cost twice as much, takes four times the beating and is still ticking. This thing sits safely on my bedside table and just quits?

Same but it charges and writed Ipod but it doesnt play music and if you move it it works. crap but ill try to mov the connector where i dont need to move the ipod

SAme prob here I think the connector moved or bends with usage and then you have a bad connection that explains when you move it it clears. I’ll try to bend it back up or take the ihome apart but its def a pain.

SOLUTION TO THE AUX PROBLEM!!!!!!!!

I noticed if I tipped the ihome so it was rearing in the speakers it would play the iPod but right when user it back to normal the problem would start up again! I had It set in the position and tipped the iPod forward some (holding it there) and it played perfectly normal. This leads me to believe that the constant changing of songs and pushing on the iPod made the metal piece move somehow. I put some cloth behind the iPod when it’s in the dock and it now works perfectly!
