Thanks for the advice...I actually think my display looks better after setting everything up with the advanced settings.

The only way I can see my HD MM mini at all after the 10.5.7 update is in "safe mode", and the "display" is 576 lines of low resolution PAL annoyance. Though the projector will at least show the system is running, which I suppose is... something. I can get my data off if I have to knock it back to the install CD. If I can find it. Anyone remember what the original shipped OS was for a PPC mini? 10.3? Oy vey (slaps forehead) This thing was so pretty in 720p. :(

In normal boot, I get a green screen, no OS rendering at all.

So in safe mode, I tried ScreenResX, but I can't get it to save, or keep any resolution. Nothing shows in the display prefs in safe mode, reboot or no, and of course, I can't see anything UNLESS the machine is booted in safe mode, so who knows what the normal prefs look like. Plus -- amazingly -- it doesn't have standard HD timings and resolutions in its "typical" list. Unbelievable.

Any suggestions are welcome. I have tried deleting prefs and com.apple... files (carefully), no dice, no changes either way. I also bought DisplayConfigX, but paying for it doesn't seem to be the thing that gets you an actual registration code. Web site says "several days" may go by, which makes me want to chew on someone's leg. It's been hours already, no registration key. And... because ScreenResX didn't work, I'm not feeling very hopeful about DisplayConfigX, either.

I also tried to use the mouse and the keyboard to go, stepwise, into the display prefs using my macbook pro as a guide for what windows were open, when. And then try to select the topmost mode. The steps that work on the macbook pro didn't do squat on the mini. Of course, I couldn't see what I was doing, so who knows if I got it right -- windows might not have been ready, etc.

I sure wish Apple would spend some of that money it's sitting on properly TESTING things.

When I use my Macbook Pro DVI out to play DVDs from my laptop DVD player or laptop hard drive on my projector (Sanyo PLV-Z60) I find that I lose all detail in the blacks and the falloff into detailless black happens quite swiftly. This does not happen when I play DVDs from my standalone DVD player. Any idea how I may fix this?

I tried to install a previous version of OSX 10.5.0 and it worked fine. System recognizes my screens native resolutions immediately. I Upgraded up to 10.5.5 and it is still fine! It seems that something changed after version 10.5.6 for intel graphic cards support on Macs. With 10.5.6 you need a special software tool like DisplayConfigX to solve the problem and with version 10.5.7 you cannot do anything but using a VGA cable. I also tried beta version of Snow Leopard and the problem still remains. My suggestion is stay with OSX version 10.5.5.
