Great article. When Lion releases, it will now do 4 things! Acting also as a “Fullscreen” mode that hides everything else. Thanks for adding to the problem Apple. :)

i think that it doesn’t matter what the green button does. just because on a PC the third button maximizes a window doesn’t mean that’s what it must do on a mac. besides whats wrong with just dragging the corner? its not that hard to do, just line up the top and drag…..

The green button does not maximize, but its function is pretty useful when you understand what it does. the green button resizes the window to fit all content. Try it out, go to digg.com or something, click the green button, and voila! It fits all the content. Pressing it again will return the size to what you had. BTW, Thanks Apple people for not knowing how your product works.

“Maximize” should not be an option given to users. It’s stupid and inefficient and they need to be weened off of it.

I agree that “zoom” needs to be fixed, but it needs to be fixed to normal zooming.

This green button issue is making me want to switch BACK to Windows. I love the mac but hate the green button with unadulterated passion.

Apple please fix the green button it’s too dam contextual it needs to serve one function throughout the operating system it will stop switchers from windows moaning and make your operating system feel loads better in an instant.
At the moment in most apps it just shrinks the window to fit content apart from Skype iCal most the iLife stuff ( mini player in itunes ) blar di blar

Id go for switch between too sizes set by user simple, (apart from in quicktime it would have flick between the original size of the movie and a resized by user size!!
