I am just starting with garageband 09 and i was wondering whether there are other instruments that can be learnt other than the piano and the acoustic gutar? Such as the harmonica…

I am a huge fan of GarageBand. Most of the time before I begin writing a song, I can already hear the arrangement of the different of instrument parts and with GarageBand I have been able to put my ideas down as close to the original as I can; they usually turn out better!

I have been using GarageBand for my songwriting for the past year and have just released an album which is now available on iTunes (Ngqibs – Let Me Be). The entire album was recorded, produced and mixed on Apple’s GarageBand ’08 (with the exception of 4 songs) and I can only imagine what I can do with GarageBand ’09. I have learned a lot about recording and mixing from this program! I strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn the basics of audio production.

Listen to the quality of the work on iTunes. A lot of people thought the album was recorded in a professional but it wasn’t. Apple is amazing and having a great set of headphones and my MacBook was all I needed to release my own debut album! Thank You Apple! Ngqibs – Let Me Be available on iTunes now!

Adding basic piano and guitar lessons is a great idea for garageband and will be a great help in improving my keyboard skills. I am pretty good on the guitar, but not that great on the keyboard. The lessons should be useful for all people of all ages.

It’s about inspiration. Instead of your mum dragging you to a music teacher, they can let their kids discover it on their own, through GarageBand. When they are hooked, the parents and music teachers can step in. I think it’s brilliant. Software should inspire us, and teach us.

I think Mayer will actually have some lessons eventually. In his blog it says he’s basing out of LA because of a “cool side project”. Kinda confident it’s this.
