I didn’t read the full article, the pictures said it all. I want this app.
I was just curious about the fact that it looks a lot like windows xp windows explorer using thumbnails, which is not a bad thing if it has been improved.
I also think Acdsee did something like this for windows many years ago, but that app got extremly bloated and unfriendly.

I’ll make it an option in a future version to turn off the dangling folder icons and to make the animation faster/shorter.

Double-clicking will also become an option. The problem with it is that a preview is shown on the first click and the icon can move when the preview is shown, so the 2nd click may not hit the icon. I’ll work around that problem though.

About the price… I thought about what you get for an OS X upgrade. I remember at one point I had 10.2 and 10.3 on two different Macs, and the only real difference for me as a user was Exposé. And that cost $129… (10.4 was totally worth that amount of money, but 10.3?…) Anyway… FileBrowse 1.5 will have file management (moving, copying, renaming, creating folders and aliases, full drag-and-drop, etc.) and will be a free upgrade for registered users of 1.0.x. It should be available in less than 2 months.

Matt: FileBrowse only communicates with servers when it has to create a thumbnail for a web page. Most notably for “.webloc” files, sometimes also for “.webarchive” and HTML files. The thumbnail is just like a page in a web browser then (using WebKit, like Safari), but smaller and non-interactive.

I actually hesitated quite a lot with FileBrowse but I just can’t buy every single app I’d like to support on Mac OS X, otherwise I’d be broke very quickly ;-)

I happened to have Activity Monitor open while I was using it, and everytime I open a folder with it the ‘Network Traffic’ chart spikes. This would suggest it’s communicating with some external server for something… If anyone could check up on this to find out why?

It’s a very nice, very intuitive program, that I’d like to buy, but in these days of spyware and malware, it always seems like you can never be too cautious.
