Yet Nokia, Palm and Samsung have all recently introduced proprietary OSs. For a hardware company, a proprietary OS is a big advantage. Compare Apple’s profits on iPhone or Mac to the profits of any of their competitors. However, I do think Android will eventually dominate the low end of the handset business, just as Windows dominates the commoditized low end of the computer business.

The app is popular because Facebook is popular. This not the same thing as “well done.”

The guy is high profile, because Facebook is high profile. This is not the same thing as “good developer”.

Also, I use Facebook on the iPhone exclusively, and it sucks rather badly so I don’t see how he has any high ground to be preaching to others from. It’s updated less frequently than most apps and fails quite often.

I’m not suggesting that Facebook will abandon the iPhone, quite to the contrary Hewitt indicates that he is simply passing it on to another developer. What I’m suggesting, however, is that Hewitt is one of the best developers for the iPhone out there, and when the best developers don’t want to work on your platform that’s an indication that something might be wrong.

Seriously, you have the developer of what is probably the most popular iPhone app out there calling out Apple’s horrible management of the app store. This is a big deal.

Its not like it’s going to bring down Apple or something, but it is another sign that something is truly rotten behind the scene with the App store.

Apple should really try to fix some of this stuff.
