Facebook 3.0 Arrives in the App Store
For those of you waiting with baited breath for Facebook 3.0, the time has come. Pretty much exactly in time for that two week turnaround estimate, too, despite fears it might not make it. Here’s a taste of what’s available with the new update:
- See your upcoming Events and RSVP
- See Pages and post updates and photos to Pages you administer
- Write Notes and read your friends’ Notes
- Upload videos from an iPhone 3GS
- Complete photo management (create albums, delete albums, delete photos, delete photo tags)
- Change your Profile Picture
- Like posts and photos
- See the same News Feed as the Facebook website
- Visit links in a built-in web browser
- Quickly call or text your friends
For a full list, check out app developer Joe Hewitt’s Facebook note from last week. Facebook 3.0 is a free download from the App Store (iTunes link).

Can I just chime in and say that it is NOT yet in the UK apple store. How infuriating.
spoke too soon, it is in fact available now :-P
hmm, im surprised this was allow? you can search through very naughty pictures on some facebook pages, you know. oh, not to mention some people curse like no other on Facebook. oh, and you can ridicule public figures on Facebook. and lastly, you can go to facebook through Safari, so isnt this a duplication of functionality?
/end rant
Still not in the Canadian store!!
I don’t see it in the US Store! What the F?
It’s not showing in the US store. Not sure what’s going on.
Its showing version 2.5 in the store but it’s actually 3.0 I just got it. Whoo Hoo!
@jamie – Thanks. Someone on Twitter posted that very tidbit of info as well. I have it now and liking it much more. It’s actually catching up (may have superseded) the functionality offered by the Blackberry version.
I cannot figure out how to upload video with this thing…
also, anyone else noticed that it doesn’t actually look like the common screenshots? In the UK at least the colours on the main menu are reversed
“Baited” breath?
Try “bated” breath. No worms in bated breath.
I can’t believe this guy didn’t even bother to fix the post after your comment.
Just delete your current facebook app and instal the one in the app store. I says version 2.5 but in reality you are donloading/installing V3.
I had to reload the Updates tab in the store several times for the updates to show up. Must be some wonkiness in the App Store right now.
When is someone going to post a video of Steve Martin running around in The Jerk screaming “The new phonebook’s here! The new phonebook’s here!”
That’s all that’s been running through my head this afternoon.
Well…that and the old Sea Galley commercials from the ’80′s. “We’ve got crablegs!”
& not in the Australia store!
The reload updates trick worked. It finally showed up as 3.0
. . . . and it doesn’t work. Launches and then hangs. Restart doesn’t help.
Finally works on the 5th attempt. Hmmmmmm . . . .
It’s not working for me either! I uploaded 3.0, it launches, stalls, then drops back to the iPhone home screen. tried deleting and updating the app again, no dice!
deleted it from iphone and mac, downloaded directly from phone- works now! looks pretty cool too!
After Joe Hewitt’s public “trust me!” whine-fest and Facebook’s previous issues with privacy policy issues (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Facebook_Beacon), I’m surprised this didn’t get more scrutiny than it did.
it was not working for the first about 5 attempts. after that it is working, but the chat part is crashing continuously.
on my girlfriend’s iPhone is the same. so it is the program. they should have tested more before releasing it.
Mine’s crashed once (initial load) too, though I haven’t used the chat feature yet.
It would be great if this was actually Joe Hewitt’s elaborate prank to show that the review process is broken. Unfortunately, it’s just more likely that he didn’t do a very good job with the app in the first place.
i downloaded the app from my computer – froze my phone. rebooted it several times. tried one of the suggestions on here and deleted the app from my phone and downloaded it again, but this time directly from my phone. the login took a little longer than usual but it works now! thanks for the tip!
Its really great for iphone and facebook users. Thanks for info
