Dude, this is a Macbook Pro, not a Macbook Consumer. Where does Mr. Todd Benjamin from Apple mention anything regarding the "Pro" market? CES Consumer Electronic Show is mentioned here. 17" macbook Pro is not an option.

Where did the Macbook Pro go?
Canon CF card in EOS 1D. 5D, 7D, etc..

Sony SxS Card for EX1R,EX 3, EX 350,
CF Card for Z7U, Z5U, MRC Mr1

Panasonic P2 Card

JVC SxS

Now you are limited to USB 2.0 Transfer speed. Maybe not a big difference for CF, but SxS and P2 this is a significant issue.

This is a flippin Joke, how dare they pull a fast one on Steve Jobs while he was ill.

Thing is, I've never used the PC CardBus slot in my G4 PowerBook for anything, whereas I do use SD Cards in my digital camera. If Apple's survey was accurate, only a percentage of MacBook Pro owners in the low single digits used the ExpressCard slots. Not to say that they're not important to those who do find uses for them, but I thon,k it's safe to guess that tge SD slots will get heavier usage by most.

SD modems would be very cool.

There are USB/ExpressCard adapters.

Well, the SDXC sounds promising if it can go to 2TB. Awesome for on the go cloning and time machine backups, as oppose to some blasted 3.5in external HD.

But what about mobile wireless? I have an ExpressCard modem, to use my USBs for other things.

Now, if they make SD modems, that would be very very cool. or if the USB ones get mighty small, that would fine, too, but we need more USBs.

So where does this leave 800 firewire? AUD$100 extra for every drive just for FW800? I do not see the point.

I think anyone buying into the new MacBooks are idiots.... noticed I didn't use Pro. I think writers supporting SD cards are idiots. Why would anyone want an SD card over an ExpressCard when the ExpressCard could be an SD slot along with a myriad of other things?

compared to expresscards, sd cards are fracking usless. I'll prob buy a refurb of the previous version soon just to have a usable pro laptop that's not the width of a lunch tray.

On the addition of removable storage to the iPhone/iPod Touch, MicroSD seems to be have more widespread use than MiniSD.

@zapod: Interesting observation. Perhaps solid stage devices will eventually do away with the optical disk.

The SD format is great for point and shoot digital cameras. But "pros" probably use CF cards that are more common in the DSLRs that are on market today. Luckily, I found an SD to CF adapter from Delkin, but it does require buying all new SD cards.
