I rather take it to a professional iPhone Certified repair store where they will do it for half the price. In DC area we have DC iPhone http://www.dciphone.com and they were able to fix the screen for under $50 versus Apple wanted to charge me $200 for my iPhone repair.

I was wanting to know how much it would cost to fix cracked screen and the lcd display had oil on/in it so I think that needs to be replaced as well.

Yesterday I dropped my iPhone and made a huge crack. I booked the genius bar I went to the Apple store and the lady told me I would be charged with $109. Ofcourse I refused that and I told her that my friend got her screen fixed for free at another Apple store. She told me she can’t fix it for free because it’s against the policy but try the store that my friend went.

So I went to the store that my friend went and the employee booked the genius bar for me. I waited 30 minutes for my appointment for 30 minutes and this cocky rude genius called my name. At this point I had a feeling he won’t fix it. As soon as he saw my phone he said he charges $109 . I told him that my friend got it fixed at this for free and I went to another store before and the lady said try here. He just made this obnoxious smile and was talking to his coworkers joking around about my visit to another store. I was pissed at this guy because he was really rude.

But then he asked me a funny question asking me if I am good at rock paper sissors. I said yah and he made a bet with me that if I win 3 out of 5 he will do it for free but if i lose he will charge me $109. I took that bet and won so he fixed it for free.

When I signed the contract and everything he told me don’t get pissed at him for breaking my own phone. I wasn’t pissed at him for breaking my phone I was pissed at his rudeness. Nevertheless I was really satisfied and he provided a good service.

I know breaking the screen is my own fault and the store is not to blame. But hearing that my friend got it replaced for free I was expecting that to happen. So people all I can say is try different stores and don’t judge people easily. Lesson learned.

Great article, one other thing to add. The warranty costs about $12 per month and you can only have upto 2 claims a year, now get ready for this , are you ready? The deductible is $200 per claim. WTF!!!

He’s not very smart? Hey dumbass, did you know that the SCREEN is not the “mini-computer” and has absolutely NOTHING to do with the screen breaking? Glad you listed your website so that no one is stupid enough to have you work on their “mini-computer” that isn’t broken from a cracked screen.

That’s really sad guava. The only phone (that I’m aware of) that isn’t backed up. For $4 or $5 a month (not much) most companies will replace the phone for you 2x in 12 mos.

As for you, Billy Bob, you’re a jackass, but the name kind of indicates that. You’re right, what was I thinking? People are often caught thinking “hmmm, I wonder what will happen if I drop this face down onto the pavement, maybe if it lands just right it will shatter the screen” and then let it fly.

Hopefully you’ve returned to the safe waters of your Apple fanboy site.

Why doesn’t AT&T/Apple have a replacement plan like most SmartPhone contracts? It’s because Paul is absolutely correct.

Sorry but a <$10 screen and 10 minutes doesn't equal $199. Apple has this odd enjoyment of ripping people off as best they can.

Why the hell would I pay $199 to do a repair that takes 10 minutes? Why would you, why would anyone unless they just enjoy dropping cash into Apples pockets (and I know there’s a lot out here that does).

I love people who think paying retail is the only way to go. What exactly do you lose by not being under “warranty” if you’re out of warranty?

Unfortunately jailbreaking an iPhone still voids the warranty…just like a broken screen does…but now it is constitutionally ‘legal’ to do. Apple tends to like to refuse repair/service more often than not. A lot of times they’ll just say the phone has been water damaged, just to get a customer out the door or to get payment for out-of-warranty stuff. Good thing is, is that there are an abundance of iPhone repair companies springing up. But be weary of companies using cheap parts!
