From what I understand 3G is not all that widespread in the USA compared to EDGE.

That being the case I think Apple made a sensible move going with EDGE.
Whats the point of having bleeding edge features that you can’t actually utilise at will.

Here in Australia its a different matter. Only 1 carrier here has EDGE capability whereas 3G is fairly widespread.

I love the idea of being able to purchase from iTunes directly from the iPone however.

this is probably that big application missing that there was talk about previously, the missing icon is probably an iTunes music store DING DING DING this all fits together, bummer i live in NZ tho

I figured that was coming. The option in iTunes 7 to transfer purchased music FROM your iPod to iTunes didn’t make a whole lot of sense unless there was a way to get purchased content ON your iPod in the first place. Yeah, a user with one iPod in manual mode and two computers might find it handy, too, but I’m betting it was really put there in anticipation of the iPhone (or other internet-capable iPod device).

But there are still three things iPhone needs before I’m convinced:

1) Removable storage, like perhaps an SD slot
2) A front-mounted camera for video conferencing
3) iChat
4) A SDK for third-party software developers

Four, four things it needs… oh, I’ll just come in again.
