The FreeBSD licence allows code covered therein to be used in closed-source software, and is likely the primary reason that Apple based OS X on FreeBSD rather than Linux.

xnu is open-source because it suits Apple&#039;s interest to have that particular component open-source.  There are a great many other FreeBSD-derived components of OS-X that are closed-source, and likely to remain so.]]></description>
