Apple should not abandon photographers and graphics professionals who NEED the panel to be non-glossy and accurate (not over saturated and with an overdose of contrast). None of the professionals are trying to deny the average user their glossy screens that love with a passion. I am happy for them, happy they love the glossy units, and happy they will buy them. But let's not forget that there are very specific reasons why some of us will not be happy with this new glossy glass screen. Apple, you shouldn't forget this eaither. I would have bought a couple of MBPs when they came out, and a 17" and am still in the market for a 30" or maybe two of them. But not if they are glossy. Hope you are listening Apple.

As for the rest you who love this new beast. Go buy it. Just try to convince me that that's its the cat's pajamas. Wishing that Steve Jobs marketing team understood this whole debate a little better and wasn't trying to pedal something to us that doesn't suit our needs.

I'm a designer and I LOVE the glossy screens (like on the iMac) and am excited to see them making new stand-alone screens glossy as well - as I use two monitors and would like them to match. I also like the new design, and the black keys, and in fact, I want to buy a new one just because it looks so good.

I am concerned though, however, that this display appears only for use for laptops, and not really as a second screen on a macpro or imac. Is this the case?

I hate the new displays. First of all the aesthetics are bad. I still love the previous one. I also hate these displays because of reflection. They should have worked on upgrading the previous cinema displays with the non-glossy finish. they were much better off. i also hate the black keyboard. the new macbooks are no better than dell laptops. infact the dell ones are cheaper. the white macbook was the tradition and was really nice. i will not buy apple laptops until they get back to the beautiful aesthetics they once had. i guess apple has recruited some useless people in designing area who have produced such ludicrous ones. i am sure with a bad feedback from people apple will learn to make their stuff beautiful as well.

These are only for MBooks I'm assuming?
I looked to see if you could add them to the MacPro configure specs area on the website and it didnt seem to show them as useable for the MacPro's.

I guess the Mini Display port connector means its for the laptop range.

Which is probably good since the gloss/glass screen is pretty bad for designers.

Beautiful design, but the glass has got me worried for color correction work and I absolutely hate that the new displays lack firewire 400 ports. Made for Macbooks, lacking for Mac Pro's IMHO.

While it isn't the slide-in dock, I think the features for the price of yesterday's $899 model are pretty compelling.

I mean, first, this is an LED display. Then there are speakers, camera, mic, one cable, MagSafe, USB ports, and better specs on the monitor itself. That's a whole lot of improvement for the same price as before.
