It’s great to see someone picked this up and released the (forgive me) fix for a very common thing happening. This is why I continue to use a Mac. Apple has done a good job of behaving like a small company listening to their customers, and a better job at it than their competitors.

I updated to Mac OS 10.4.9 without the knowledge that the eject key now has a delay. I also thought there was something wrong with my MacBook Pro. Good thing I ran into this blog when researching the problem.

OK i LOVE this idea don’t get me wrong, but it has screwed a few of us up here now thinking that something is wrong with our machines.

Good on apple for implementing it… Bad on apple for not giving us an option…where do i go to put this back if i want to.

Better idea!

put the DELAY on HELP.
Who uses this button? im sure more ppl use the Eject button more often.

Hell how about a complete disable.

Dear Apple support, is there any chance to configure the CD eject Key on a MacBook Pro (e.g. setting a delay)? Several searches point to the following links where many users miss a delay for this key. I often hit this key while trying to hit backspace. It is extremely annoying, especially when you are about to import a music cd, and hit the key accidental.

That thing is the most (and only) annoying thing on my MBP. I hope somebody finds a away to change this. I hardly ever use my disc-drive, I’d be happy to completely kill that eject button.. just like I did it with my Caps-Lock key, which had just the right preference to turn off..

I have to agree that I have accidentally hit the eject button more times that I care to count on my MacBook Pro. The press and hold for 1-2 seconds sounds ideal to me. How would we go about implementing this? Who should we contact at Apple with this suggestion?

But I have. I have a MacBook Pro Core Duo and I press the ‘Eject’ key quite often accidentally. I could neither find any setting in ‘System Preferences’ that would allow me to change the shortcut, nor would setting the function keys to trigger software features help because the ‘Eject’ key is separate from the function keys. I am incline to believe that the press and hold implementation on the PowerBooks must have been much better.
Anybody knows of a solution for this?
