Articles like this made me believe that MacOS will be as useful as Linux was - and I bought a Mac. I am so much disappointed by the Mac support for open source applications. X apps on Mac are like X apps under Cygwin. Without MacPorts this would be a useless machine. I am fed up with Aqua - KDE is so much more convenient. I'll have to install now Linux on my Mac and after the kind of support for open source apps on MacOS I do not think I will ever buy another Mac.

@Kevin - re-tried it to make sure i'm not going crazy and it does.

@Joseph - not complaining about the /opt so much as I'm a tad disappointed there wasn't a KDE4 folder in /Applications with at least links to the apps (makes it more difficult for the average user to want to play with the new toys)

I'm told that KDE 4.1 is going to be *amazing*... 4 is plenty entertaining, so if it only gets better things are looking good for cross-platform development with decent look-and-feel (& functionality)

KDE's use of /opt is a very, very good thing. There's a reason for it: separation of preinstalled and extra system software. You don't want KDE in /usr

@Soroush, Ranger Rick (and some others) gave a bit of info on the progress of Amarok http://www.racoonfink.com/archives/000754.html. I suspect it won't be long before Mac & Windows users. (Those new to KDE should take a look here - http://amarok.kde.org/ - for what we're talking about. You can think of Amarok as iTunes on steroids with a triple venti Americano tossed in for good measure.)
