I got a 15' MacBook Pro Core 2 and an Airport Express. I'm sure everyone knows by now the issues faced here - the connection speed, if you could even get one, is slower than a dying snail on dope. No one knows what's wrong exactly as certain fixes does the job for some and not for others. Some blame it on incompatibility issues with the Intel chip. Some blame it on the WEP security. I dunno...

I noticed this fix seems to be for the Airport Extreme. Is this enabler going to work for the Airport Express? I'm frankly sick and tired of having paid so much for so little. This $1.99 or $4.99, I'm willing to pay just to get this damn problem over and done with.

Anyone?

Apple could issue coupons or mail in rebates to make this free to customers. They would still account for the revenue in this case and offer a promotional opportunity as well, win-win. I'm betting they will discuss this in the 2p FY 07 Q1 meeting today.

Jesus. If you care that much about five bucks, what are you doing buying a MacBook Pro to begin with? Ooh, yeah, Apple's really sticking it to you. They're getting an extra 4.95 on a twenty-five-hundred-dollar machine. I think I'll sink my retirement fund into Apple stock so I can capitalize on this massive financial windfall.

You want something to get up in arms about, show me that Apple is lying about this being a bookkeeping necessity. Otherwise, it seems pretty reasonable to me.

I know most Mac users are going to do the right thing. But why not just pirate the enabler software? (iMac Core Duo here, so it's no benefit to me :( )

Brian -
I'd assume you - like me with my CD MacBook - are outta luck. But at least you've got a slot on yours, which I would bet will be able to accept a 802.11n card at some point in the not so distant future...
