Newsfire...developer...asshat :-)
I was ready to buy Newsfire but found the developer to be totally unresponsive. Nice looking program though.
PulpFiction...The mail-like interface with rules etc. seems easier for the average joe. It is a resource hog and is my most crash-prone app at the moment. It was just sold to another company so maybe they will straighten things out.

I bought NewsFire, and now I'm regretting it because of its tendency to mark sites as "invalid" and its noticeable slowdowns during refreshes. Developer Dave Watanabe is quite the asshat about customer support and suggestions in general, too.

Now I'm thinking about buying NNW, but I miss Growl support...

THAT was it! I couldn't remember if I had problems with stability/recource usage, or usability, so I just threw UI out there. I remember now how often it would crash on me, and how my computer would lock up when it refreshed feeds. As someone who sits down to over 400 news items every morning, I don't think PF is for me.

I've been using PulpFiction for a while now, and it's (mostly) insanely great. It has a Mail.app like interface, which makes things very simple for me to understand.

PF keeps a database of your feeds, so you can keep archives of content indefinitely; this is great for full-text feeds. I've added a lot fewer bookmarks in Firefox after using PF.

I've always had some stability issues with PF; sometimes it crashes after opening a link in its built-in web browser. It's a real hog when it's checking feeds, and can be almostly completely unresponsive during that time. So if you have a lot of feeds, it can be really annoying.
