Justin Sheehy, who acknowledged he is leaving Basho on Monday, will join VMware as a senior director and site leader for the company’s Cambridge, Mass. office.

In his new gig he will work on VMware’s storage and availability efforts, he said on Tuesday.

News broke Monday that Sheehy, who has been with Basho since before it incorporated in early 2008, was leaving for an undisclosed opportunity.  The Register also reported that Andy Gross, Basho chief architect, was leaving for Twitter and that Basho’s CEO Greg Collins left in January.

Sheehy reiterated that his and Gross’s exits were not coordinated and that Basho, the company behind the Riak NoSQL database and Riak CS distributed cloud storage offering, will forge ahead. “I just needed to try something very different,” Sheehy said via email.
