We all know Satya Nadella is moving on up to the top slot at Microsoft. Now Microsoft has confirmed that corporate VP Scott Guthrie will step in to lead Nadella’s Enterprise & Cloud group, on an interim basis.

Guthrie, or “ScottGu,” has been Microsoft’s point man on Visual Studio, Silverlight, and most recently Windows Azure — the crown jewel of Microsoft’s cloud strategy. Just last week he spoke to Gigaom about NBC Sports’ use of Windows Azure to processing and distribute video from the upcoming Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics.

Guthrie, who joined Microsoft as a program manager in 1997, is also a fairly prolific blogger for the company. While this is an interim appointment, Guthrie could end up being the full-time successor, a spokesman said.

  1. No surprise there. He’s already so key to moving the tooling and platform forward, and he’s well respected internally and externally.
