OpenDaylight, the open-source SDN framework backed by industry heavyweights, is now available for download. The Hydrogen release, which had been promised for December,  is now available in versions for big enterprises, service providers or academia. The goal is to spur adoption of SDN and its benefits — easily reconfigurable networks using cheap hardware. The effort was launched in 2013 by Cisco, Big Switch, Nuage Networks, VMware and others.
