Apple’s iPhone can’t do wireless payments at terminals that use NFC, nor near-field communications chips. Or can it? The Incipio Cashwrap case actually adds this functionality, which is needed for the Isis payment system in the U.S. On Tuesday, Engadget reported the Cashwrap was appearing in some AT&T retail locations with the suggested retail price of $70.

Based on Incipio’s website, the case will indeed retail for $69.99 at AT&T and will be available in three colors.

Apple iPhone owners will have to install the Isis mobile app before using the Cashwrap. Once installed, credit card information can be stored and used for contactless payments where Isis is supported. The Cashwrap product page also says transit passes and loyalty cards will be supported.

The Isis mobile app isn’t yet appearing in the iTunes App Store so even if you can grab a Cashwrap case early, it likely won’t work. With reports of retail inventory appearing at carrier stores, however, it shouldn’t be long before the wraps are off the Cashwrap case.
