Do you own an Android device or know someone who’s getting one for Christmas? From today through December 28, Amazon is handing out $5 credits for app store goodies.

To get the $5, users have to download any Amazon app — even a free one. They will then receive a credit to spend on games, apps and other such things.

If you don’t have the app store installed, Amazon has instructions on how to do that here. The company adds that people who already have the app store need to make sure they have latest version installed.

Amazon is also offering “free apps of the day,” starting with something called Piano Master Christmas Special with Angry Birds Star Wars II reportedly on offer for tomorrow.

Apple users, meanwhile, can check out the “12 Days of Digital Gifts” campaign that starts on December 26.

  1. I just tried this and it only gave me $1 credit, boooo!

    1. That’s strange, Jordan. I wonder if you’re the only one if or you have to download an app every day — which would be unfair. Let us know if Amazon makes good on its promise!

      1. I just tried it and got the full $5 on the first download. Thanks for the heads up by the way.

  2. I downloaded a free app through the Amazon app store and got an email with a $1 credit towards the MP3 store.

    1. Nevermind. Once the app finished downloading, I received an email for the $5 credit. So, actually, the $1 is an unexpected bonus. Yay.

  3. I also received only $1, but I am completely satisfied. The $5 credit is only for purchasing apps — the vast majority of my apps on my phone were free. The $1 is for MP3 purchase(s) which is more useful to me — I have already redeemed it on “Siren” by Theater of Tragedy.

  4. It’s a scam. I installed the amazon App Store and downloaded two free Android apps. Then it tried to charge my credit card for the 99 cents app I wanted to install. The amazon “customer service” staff acted like he had no clue about the promotion, even when I gave him the full link to the amazon.com page explaining it. The latest assumption by amazon is that “customer must be stupid” – or, that’s the new policy to try to justify not honoring their advertisements.

If you want to take your chances, and try to get the $5, go ahead, but if you don’t want a hassle, just stick with Google Play.
