Summary:

It’s pretty much a lock that LG is building the Nexus 5 for Google. After a leaked video image of the phone surfaced, the FCC has pictures of a similar LTE phone built by LG.

It’s looking more and more like LG is building the Nexus 5 handset. After an image in an official Google video for Android 4.4 showed off a new Nexus, the FCC has pictures of what appears to be the same handset. And that phone is made by LG, the same company that built last year’s Nexus 4.

PhoneScoop spotted the FCC filings with the images and you can see the resemblance of the tested phone with the one in the Google video that was quickly pulled.

So far, little is known about the phone’s internals, but it’s clear that some type of camera improvements should be expected based on the photo. And unlike the Nexus 4, this model will surely support LTE as the FCC tests indicate the correct frequency bands for fast mobile broadband.

I had thought Motorola might get the nod for this year’s Nexus, but apparently it wasn’t meant to be. That’s OK, LG did a great job on the Nexus 4 and with newer hardware — think a Snapdragon 800 chip and full HD screen — the Nexus 5 is already looking good.

  1. Still sporting a N4 waiting for the N5 to be released. Had a Galaxy S4 recently for a month, but TouchWiz drove me nuts (Samsung’s apps are decent, but the interface? UGH) — so sold it and banked the sale for the N5. Meanwhile, went back to the trusty N4 I’ve had since November of last year. JB 4.3 is awesome on it, It will be sweet sorrow when I have to stop using it for the N5.

  2. Can’t wait for the N5, I’m sure this will be even better than the N4 and the N4 was damn near flawless except for the missing LTE.

    1. You can root it and reflash the LTE bands on it.
