Summary:

LG’s G2 smartphone hasn’t made a public appearance yet but the case for it has: And it looks awfully familiar. Remember Samsung’s S-View with screen cut-out for the Galaxy S 4?

LG’s newest phone hasn’t launched yet but the phone case for it is ready to go and it looks awfully familiar. On Tuesday, LG announced the QuickWindow case for the LG G2, which is expected to debut on August 7. The new case covers most of the upcoming phone’s screen and has a cut-out window to show important information; just like Samsung’s S-View Flip Cover for the Galaxy S 4.

In a press release, LG said the case supports the “QuickWindow UX” with a finger swipe so users can see info without having to open up the case and wake their phone. Time, weather, an alarm, music player, incoming phone call details and text messages are all available through the QuickWindow. The case will be available at the same time as the upcoming G2 and come in the following colors: black, white, pink, purple, blue, mint and yellow.

I like the concept here, having tested it on the Galaxy S 4. Samsung told me that it could add more features and data types to its S-View case and I suspect LG will slowly bring more information to the cut-out “display” over time as well. The idea is one of Samsung’s more innovate thoughts and clearly LG agrees with me, since it’s essentially copying the idea.
