Tech Cocktail, a site that covers startup news and also organizes community events, has raised $2.5 million from Zappos CEO Tony Hsieh’s Downtown Project. The Downtown Project aims to help revitalize downtown Las Vegas and regularly invests in real estate, small businesses and startups in the area.

Tech Cocktail was cofounded in 2006 by former blogger and AOL product strategist Frank Gruber and former Feedburner employee Eric Olson. The site, which has its headquarters in downtown Las Vegas, said it will use the funding to hire more employees, including VegasTech organize Gabriel Shephard and DC Tech organizer Justin Thorp.
