Mostly agree Stacey, a limited number of achievements and a lot of missed opportunities. To your list of those building the next generation networks we need, you might note local governments have stepped up too, not just Google and Gigabit Squared. Local governments are responsible for far more gigabit networks than the private sector but that solution is consistently minimized by a press that only seems to care about investment when Google or Apple are involved.

You're estimating US broadband speeds according the OECD's Sept. 2011 survey of advertised speed? Surely you jest.

There are much better primary data sources on actual speeds, such as Akamai's State of the Internet Report. You cover that as it comes out every quarter, so why retreat to the OECD's bureaucratic and limited survey of advertising claims?

Your checklist of priorities is interesting, but don't you think it would be worthwhile to grade your own list as well? A number of those items don't hold up very well as FCC marching orders go. The FCC doesn't have a whole lot to do with business broadband, for example, and Quality of Service doesn't mean what you seem to think it means.

An unbiased appraisal shows that US broadband, both wired and mobile, is in much better shape than it was when JG stepped up. If you can't acknowledge that, I have to question your objectivity.
