Hi Dev, in my view a couple of years from now is going to be too late. Not only Microsoft, but a lot of the big traditional vendors will have to downsize and change their business models radically to stay profitable. Nothing in MS's vision is new and can be done with current technologies already, though the screen might be a tad on the expensive side!

Leap provides a more accurate gesture interface at a cheaper price point with a working SDK. Big data is pretty much build on open source standards, and it will be more and more difficult for propriety vendors to enter or even stay in the market. As for machine learning, IBM is leading the field on artificial intelligence. I've never heard Bing, but I read some great reviews, it is not Google though.

In my opinion, the only trump card that Microsoft still have is Outlook and Office, and even those offerings are being targeted by startups with web based applications to provide the same functionality at a fraction of the cost. Smartsheets comes to mind with a nice integrated solution, also there is Google docs, not better, but in many cases good enough.

So yeah, nice vision from MS, nothing really new and most technologies already exist.

In BigData/Data Science space, I think a lot of startups automatically assume that Microsoft will have nothing to offer. This could be nothing further from the truth. We will soon see a tighter Hood integration into Microsoft SQL/BI stack and, next, DataLab.

People are sleeping on this technology, and it will surprise a lot of folks in a couple of years.

Derrick -- May be an article on DataLab is in order?
