Many differences:
- interconnection is seamless
- no lookup or pairing is required
- low battery consumption thanks to Bluetooth
- if your tablet is connected to a wifi hotspot traffic will automatically use that offramp
- you are able to connect to other WiFi access point through Open Garden mesh when a user has a local access even if you don't have the password
- you can hop onto multiple devices to reach a local wifi
There is more to it, you can learn more on our website or on our community website.
In addition, you may want to read about mesh networks and how they can make your connectivity more reliable and your downloads go faster by using Open Garden.
Some users also say after using it it works much better than the native mobile hotspot app.
Hope this can help. :-)
