It’s VERY interesting when small development teams are building better core iPhone and iPad software than Apple may have. (Of course beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.) One of those enterprises is Flexibits, a two-man team that has built the best basic iPhone calendaring app for the iPhone...

I am personally using this CALENDAR APP for about 5 weeks and love it... its my go to place for booking appointments and reminders, where I use the calendar app for reminders too... The App also syncs to Apple's Calendars and both Apps on my iPad; regardless as to which Calendar App one decided to use to book the appointment. Great Job.

These folks, and many others like them, and the environment that Apple has created with their APP Store is what makes the iPhone and iPad really stand out as a serious productivity tools...

I have just 2 suggestions:
a. have a settings choice so that ALL DAY is not the default setting, and default all details.
b. have the initial defalt time, the time of day, am/pm the time of the of booking, rather than midnight.

Great Job...

The user interface is very clean, and the price $3.99 is right, I'm downloading it right now. The price is a very fair price, but I don't think they will get that price to work on Android, however good luck with their multi-platform dreams.

This article is very odd. In the first paragraph of your story, you complain about how third party apps are better than Apple's own apps yet the explanation is in the last section of the story by Sutherland.

Besides Maps, Google's iOS app are designed to work perfectly with Google services which, no doubt, is why you prefer them more. The Chrome app isn't even using iOS' Nitro engine. The reason why some say Chrome is better is because they better advantage of using Chrome on the desktop.

For the most part, first party apps are there to cater to the novice user. This doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement in Apple's own apps but competing with your developers is not necessarily the way to create a healthy ecosystem.
