Kevin,

This isn't a play for the mobile market - it is a switch in mindset.
Up until today, most set-top box chipsets were based on MIPS architecture; and now plyers of that market are shifting towards ARM. This is what Broadcom is doing.
It means that consumer electronics are moving to a single chip architecture based on ARM.

Kevin,

Do more Research, BRCM already lost the APP processor lead way back in 2010, as they fumbled on execution. They are mainly geting the license for Server class 64 Bit CPU to compete against Cavuim etc.. as they have MIPS today. Also the 32Bit variety is needed for embedded SOC for Wifi/BT/GPS, and Touch controller they supply to fruit guys etc.. ! App proc is blood bath game with low GM , even TI OMAP is considering leaving mkt.
