Not only is the market bigger but there is a lot of confusion about what’s in or out of the Big Data market. For instance, I recently tried to assess the size of the “Big Data Analytics Software Market” and found that a lot of market research is quite confusing.

Wikibon does a good job at breaking up the difference between software, services. Using the multiple sources available I found that “Big Data Analytics” will be a $50B market by 2016 (or twice IDC’s new estimate…)

He released the Wikibon Big Data market sizing report in Feb 2012 (with updates to it in November of this year). His estimates put the market at nearly $54 million in 2016.

It is just not about the actual definition, it is also about a lot of ambiguity in how the analytics piece can be seggregated.
