As the spouse of a French citizen, we've had lively debates about what Freedom of Speech means in each of our native countries. Europeans have a different approach than Americans and the two sides don't see it the same way. The Internet and a much freer flow of information is going to continue to be a challenge 'over there' and I'm fascinated to see how the debate unfolds.

The real issue here, is the existence of centralized services like Twitter. In a distributed model, the government would be better off, where individuals can be held responsible for their actions. we wrote something abt this that might be relevant here -

I have been to just about every type of Blog and posting of Yahoo, Google and MSN and one thing that is noteworthy is it is expected no matter what you post there will be at least one? if not many insults for whatever or whoever post on whatever the subject is? It is our current culture,. I have personally posted about 25,000 post on just Yahoo and have only had one time on February 17th, 2005 in which there was not someone who had not insulted or acted uncivilized?, I think this might have just been an anomaly?
Has anyone here, ever had an entire day of viewing the News or Blogs and not seen an Internet user not act uncivilized?

First mankind must have at least one civilized being?, and so far in his development and evolution, it has not occurred. I base this on the average of world current events. When the average of atrocities of mankind become a minimum or to my liking of nonexistent, then we of the human species have earned the right to call ourselves "CIVILIZED!".

definition of; Civilized .
1.
culturally advanced: having advanced cultural and social development
2.
refined: refined in tastes
1. Having a highly developed society and culture.
2. Showing evidence of moral and intellectual advancement; humane, ethical, and reasonable: terrorist acts that shocked the civilized world.
3. Marked by refinement in taste and manners; cultured; polished.
Adj.	1.	civilized - having a high state of culture and development both social and technological; "terrorist acts that shocked the civilized world"
civilised
educated - possessing an education (especially having more than average knowledge)
refined - (used of persons and their behavior) cultivated and genteel; "she was delicate and refined and unused to hardship"; "refined people with refined taste"
noncivilised, noncivilized - not having a high state of culture and social development
2.	civilized - marked by refinement in taste and manners; "cultivated speech"; "cultured Bostonians"; "cultured tastes"; "a genteel old lady"; "polite society"
cultured, genteel, polite, civilised, cultivated
