1. It’s all about getting ready for the Internet of Things as much as giving consumers better quality. We’re at 2B connected humans in the world and are about to add 50B connected sensors and machines. GE published a report on this two weeks ago when they wrote about the ‘Industrial Internet':

    It isn’t that there will be as much increase in smart phones as telephones, but a far greater flow of data between people and ‘things’. Police and emergency services will need this just as much as anyone else. Imagine that any building can send a signal saying, “Safe and secure” or a doctor can be getting streaming vitals from his critical patients anywhere, anytime. The bandwidth for that can’t have ‘dropouts’.
