Nice summary.

A few remarks, from the point of view of a freshly settled marketing and social media guy in a crowdfunding start-up in Singapore.

- it seems to be a bit US-center'd. Even if US VCs go overseas, no local ecosystem can compete with the density of the Valley, and startups outside US may also be less connected, so going on a crowdfunding platform may not mean you've been ousted by VCs.

- what about the community ? You suggest that CF allows "proof of concept". I'd go a bit further and say that it allows, more than "crowd" (undefined) funding, "community" (your peers, your friends, your network) funding. It's a mix of market research, marketing, pre-sales, and, indeed, proof of concept

We could also talk - much - of the link between a crowdfunding company and its projects, in particular the peril of not educating project holders. Crowdfunding is 'only' an amplifier, but the biggest effort remains for the project holders to convince everyone, through the platform, to invest in them.
