"- When Seattle PD sets up up Twitter accounts for the beat officers, the need for the local newspaper/tv channel to report that same news go down."

I can't accept this. I do need the local newspaper or TV channel or some journalism channel. I need objective {yes I know the word is loaded} reporting so I don't have to attend to individual sources to get the "news today" from millions of places and people throughout the world. I don't have the time, and I most definitely don't have the interest.

I do not want and never will go find those beat officer Twitter accounts to get news. Who says they are objective? Even if they are, they are too numerous and too unknown to get my attention.

This is suggesting a reversion to the time when the only news was the streams of gossip, facts convoluted by many people's interests, biases, passions, hearing acuity, attention thresholds, understanding, etc.etc. Like in that old game where the message changes as it flows from ear to mouth to ear to mouth.

This is tantamount to throwing in the towel. Argh!

News has traditionally flowed to the consumer through primarily one pipe - that of mainstream media. It was appropriate for a certain time but today, there is a variety of news that does not really need to flow via this pipe.
- When Seattle PD sets up up Twitter accounts for the beat officers, the need for the local newspaper/tv channel to report that same news go down.
- When a Zaid Benjamin tweets about the murder of US Ambassador to Libya, the need for a CNN to report that news goes down.
- When a local Bangalore user tweets the fire in a paints factory because he is passing by, the need for the newspaper/tv channel to get their reporter right to the scene goes down.

Now it is news like this - news that does not really need the mainstream media pipe anymore - that when pushed to pass through that pipe, reduces the efficiency of that pipe, and thus contributes to increased, avoidable costs for the pipe owner.

Am I saying that all these news should not have been worked on by mainstream media? Far from that, this is where in fact the 'displaced, not replaced' concept from the study comes in. We still need the journalist/expert (more than ever) to report what lead to the fire or question what could have been done better in the Benghazi incident, but the angle on that journalism is now a lot different than shoving publicly known facts (faster than the peers) through an otherwise exclusive, and relatively inefficient, pipe.

And what makes me say this? For more than an year, we have been working on http://frrole.com , trying to build, lets say, a news pipe for the consumer that does not exclusively rely on content just from the mainstream media.
(Matthew, I have been trying to get your attention for Frrole because I am very keen to hear your thoughts, but I guess I must not be doing something right.)

Internet will soon end to exist?

New world order is coming increasingly longer strides and it will be a time that we do not like it. Starts from the internet, which may no longer exist in the form in which it is already knew.

Internet will soon cease to exist?
On December 3 is planned a secret meeting of the International Communication Association, one of the cells of the UN, which will decide practically on the fate of the entire Internet. The worst part is that everything is kept in strict confidence, so that citizens can not accidentally protest against what the world's governments want them to serve, and there will be a nice vision.
During this meeting the 193 Member States, vote on changes in the global regulation of the Internet, which can virtually destroy the entire network.
The leak, which publishes the page WCITLeaks.org (http://wcitleaks.org/) shows that China, Russia and several other countries, would like to pass control of the Internet into the hands of the United Nations which would be disastrous. First of all, ONE WOULD THEN CONTROL ALL THE PRIVATE CORRESPONDENCE OF CITIZENS. And worse, SOME COUNTRIES WANT INTERNET USERS TO PAY FOR CONNECTING TO FOREIGN SITES, AS PAID FOR INTERNATIONAL CALLS, which in principle would be equal to suspension whole internet traffic.
Just imagine you are to pay like, for international long distance call, for using Facebook and all the others! Fortunately, Google and several other companies are fighting for to keep the network in its current form and do not allow governments to interfere against the freedom of expression. Of course, Google is fighting for self-interest, well aware that the changes would mean the fall, but it just so happens that the company's interests in this case are consistent with the needs of Internet users.
Google launched the site Take Action (https://www.google.com/intl/pl/takeaction/), which can support the idea of a free and independent internet. The action also joined WordPress, Reddit, Mozilla and Imgrur, which established the independent initiative of the Internet Defense League (http://internetdefenseleague.org/) having a similar goal.
It is important that people know what "surprise" prepare their governments and can prevent it. At the end of today we can not imagine life without the Internet.

You are to distribute this mail as wide as possible: forums, sites, chats, friends, neighbours, teachers, students, politics, NGOs, your Ombudsman, your dentist, Human Rights activists, simply everybody. Otherwise all we will loose our rights and possibility of using Internet and freedom of expression. You have been warned, you know, don't wast our chance to change it. Let other know and protest – the way you can, but everywhere in massive way. They want for you to disable the whole Internet! Really: Can you live with this? Without Internet?
