Ucilia has got it absolutely right about the problems India is facing. But to conclude that India's solar story is over is not quite right. Several provincial governments have lately announced their own solar policies and there is in evidence tremendous interest in putting up projects. Industrial consumers, tired of power outages, are happy to buy fixed-rate solar power, even it is costlier at the moment. I think India is at the cusp of a solar revolution--on the PV side, though I'm not that confident on the CSP side.

India's strong foray into the soalr energy market seems a little naive. It reminds me of a school boy who brings candy to school and gives it away for free one day. The next day he decides to spend half of his allowance on candy to sell at school, only to be disappointed that his classmates are not as interested as he thought in his enterprise...and the teachers who take the candy and lock it away until the end of the school year.

With solar electricity prices at $0.13 per unit, adopters/developers/investors really need not be too concerned about the role of government policy to aid Solar. At these prices (& PPAs) Solar electricity will be common sense. (http://www.thehindubusinessline.com/industry-and-economy/article3687437.ece)
