The main difference between the two different configurations is that the GMail profile on iOS has Notes, and the Exchange profile has Contacts. If you do not use the Notes feature on Google Mail, then use the Exchange configuration only. No need to set up both.

You are correct, I did not go into the differences between Push and Fetch. This article only focused on how to access each of Google’s services, pointing out the fact that in order to configure all four, Mail, Contacts, Calendars and Notes, you will need to set up your Google account twice.

this is a poorly written artice, you dont explain why users should use the exchange profile in iOS if they dont use Notes. Answer? when I originally set it up it was because Exchange profile gave me push email, not sure if thats changed for regular gmail profile.

Problem is when you are syncing your contacts, the photos don’t transfer!! Annoying as #$%^&*
