The Amazon approach for these seems to be to provide them as a service with just a few configurable options. You let Amazon handle the software and infrastructure, just pipe your data in and pay as you scale.

The Rackspace approach seems to be more on the customisability and flexibility so you have much more control and no lock in. This is because their whole focus on the &quot;Open&quot; part of &quot;OpenStack&quot; means if you decide, you can leave Rackspace and run it all yourself. Or, perhaps Rackspace are betting you&#039;ll switch from their cloud product to their hybrid/managed product instead. This is something Amazon don&#039;t offer. It&#039;s cloud or nothing.]]></description>
