The emissions of biomass combustion are not well understood because biomass isn't a widely used fuel for electricity generation. We know biomass, like coal, is carbon based, so burning it would likely produce same or similar particulates and compounds. But when you burn something, it creates a chemical reaction that could lead to byproducts that you don't find in naturally decaying biomass. Also, a power plant designed to run cheaply isn't likely to be equipped with ways to capture/sequester the carbon. Healthcare isn't that great in poor regions, right? So the long-term health impact in poor regions will likely be greater. A solar or wind project would be cleaner, but it's more expensive and can't produce a steady supply around the clock.

Manoj, Great step forward Indeed !! But doesn't' the regulations get on the way to setting up such power plants & distributing it in a community, even if at cost ?

There's no doubt that modern farming requires a lot of energy input, but I don't quite understand why burning the waste to create electricity is a tradeoff. If the waste wasn't burned, it would decay on it's own and produce methane and CO2, right?
