95 by 95 miles a very small area of Indian Desert could Power India twice over with solar. India has plenty of dry sunny Desert with over 300 days of sunshine, most the power is out for 12 hours in India with power cuts during day perfect time for solar.

Thanks for the information. In India, where the agriculture is the major source of livelihood for its people, the huge land requirement may become the big issue for solar PV plants. Off course, we have considerable area declared as a wasteland which is suitable for the such power plants, but still agricultural area conversion for industrial use is the key issue raised during draft Land acquisition bill of government of India. On other hand, one year old REC mechanism provide good incentives to solar plant which increases the revenue (Rs. 11-13 per unit per REC + cost of power at APPC). Let's see how the solar market booms on Indian soil. I personally feel, there is huge potential in India especially in off-grid solar power plant. Please visit similar post written by me here Booming solar energy market in India- http://greencleanguide.com/2011/04/12/booming-solar-energy-market-in-india/ and India’s first solar PV project registered under the CDM http://greencleanguide.com/2011/09/24/indias-first-solar-pv-cdm-project/
