The cable monopoly is a travesty. It's neither natural (as the industry claims) nor is it inevitable. The available competition -- mainly from the monopoly AT&T phone company -- is no better. It's a friendly duopoly. It's about time the American people rebelled against monopoly capitalism in the same way they're getting their dander up about crony capitalism. They're one and the same, not capitalism at all, merely feudalism under another name. No wonder America sucks on international surveys of quality of service. If the FCC won't act, and the Congress remains silent on the issue, then state regulators should step in and do us, the consumers and our society, right.

Sounds like Google -- Genachowski's master and also GigaOm's -- wants to impose even more unnecessary unfunded mandates upon broadband providers. The truth: a good, solid 1 Mbps satisfies all but a bandwidth hog.

Its time to give the FCC the power to actually regulate the abusive tactics brought on by US Teleco's, ISP's and cable companies. Lets face it, if they can get by charging outrageous fee's, cap your bandwidth, and deliver "broadband" which is far below the international standard then they will.

We are the laughing stock of the free world and if you think our current congress/senate or the other candidate plan to do anything more than de-regulate and allow carriers and ISP's to do little innovation then you are sadly mistaken.
