Remember that Apple launched in a huge number of countries for the iPhone 5 compared to the previous launches. Of course, 5 million is a crazy number whatever the distribution but it’d be interesting to see the growth numbers adjusted for the number of launch countries too.

Yeah, following on MonkeyT’s comment, I don’t get the significance of this. Since orders are backlogged, Apple is basically shipping as many of these as they can, so this doesn’t really tell us anything about demand. Or am I missing something?

Accountants can’t count a phone as “sold” until it’s shipped. In the number of orders taken, I’ll bet money Apple surpassed the analyst’s estimates nicely.

Analyst make their money pumping up the stock and buying it low…it is on their best interest to creat buzz and then say it disappoints cause now they can sell and then buy from you low…should that be allowed?

So all of the fans who wanted a new phone to replace their aging iPhone 4 got their shiny new toy. Now what? Word of mouth is that there is a “rattle” in a lot of the phones and that Apple Maps is an epic failure! That isn’t going to sway many newcomers over to the platform! I expect a huge drop off in sales once the iSheep get their next fix.

Ridiculous. Missing projections for sales by only selling 1m more than the previous version? I want to start living on the planet these analysts live on. WIth previous launches there have been such issues with lines and short supply of devices, not to mention AT&T and their limited LTE network probably did not get people running to pick up the iPhone 5.
