People will just keep using Apple Maps even though its clearly lacking with the belief it will “get better over time” but will it and when will that happen, iOS7 or iOS8? Since GMaps for iOS6 won’t have Siri access you will still get Apple Maps by default :(

Sort of like how iOS 6 users had to go out and d/l YouTube, they did in droves and pushed it high up on charts for free apps.

I’m not going to upgrade my 4 for the 5 nor update my IOS. I am now having to consider changing to a different phone, Android and such, for my family of 5 since Apple is really pissing me off. I can see the writing on the wall, Monopoly, and that doesn’t work for me.

Other sites have stated there is already a google maps app done for ios 6 and apple just has to approve it.

A lot of people will download Google’s app, and may even end up preferring it for general mapping. But keep in mind that every website that has map links will call up Apple’s map app; every app that uses Apple’s map interface API will use Apple’s maps. So even if the Google app is your go to choice when you just want to directly search out a map, you’ll still be seeing a lot of Apple’s maps.

Honestly, despite the initial hiccups, I’m convinced this will end up being a good thing. The old maps app had pretty much stagnated in its feature set, and there were no indications that Apple or Google had any inclination to do anything more with it. The new Apple app adds features that were missing like voice navigation. The Google app, when it comes out, will hopefully include missing features like bike route mapping. I’m hopeful that in the long run, the competition will get us some seriously better mapping options than we had previously.

That would sure be a lot of work.

If people need maps on their device and are frustrated with iOS maps they will definitely and actively download Google Maps.
