I use Sonic.net that competes in the SF Bay Area and they have a product at 20MB or 40MB download speeds with no cap. To get a service with no cap, you have to get the business service and depending what you use it for, you might also need a static IP address and they can add $15 to $20 for a single static IP. BTW AT&T has basically suspended their cap because they won't let me see my usage and they say not to worry about it.

The actual reasons for the cap are things like Youtube and other places you use to watch streaming content like audio and video. They want to cap how much you can watch so they can sell you their TV products. But Comcast is realizing that caps aren't the problem, it's they type of content. They are figuring out that if you put out good content and/or provide better service, people will buy it. They don't need tricks to try and force people to stay away from Youtube and other online streaming.

While I don't think any cap is good ... 500GB is pretty generous of a cap. The average household last time I saw numbers was lest then 20GB's a month.
