This is not a bold move. A bold move would be to provide a shelf with USB providing 10 watts of power for an mobile device and access to diagnostics with an appropriate app for iOS, Android and other devices. The in-car electronics would be limited to speakers and a power amplifier only. The car manufacturers are delusional if they think that any given customer is a fan of both their car and an arbitrary computer platform. When I leave the car I always remove personal devices. To do otherwise is to invite a broken window or a device subjected to 140+ degree heat. These points are so painfully obvious, I retain a very low opinion of the automotive industry's intelligence.
