TiVo is not mentioned AT ALL except in the headline. What is the point of mentioning TiVo?

BTW, TiVos work because of the federally mandated Cable Card. Anyone can build a device which works with cable if they support Cable Card. (UNfortunately, satellite and things like U-verse have CableCard waivers.)

Substitute “cell phone companies” or “record companies” or… for “Cable companies” and you have the same argument that’s taken place over and over again. I think most companies that finally partnered with Apple would agree that things turned out pretty well for both sides.

Content providers all ready know how much Apple made/makes for the music industry. Apple should just bypass the current providers and use the internet to drive content. How ever you work it the content providers still make money, and lots of it.

I just wish apple would allow apps on ATV. The only reason I’d buy one it to hack it to run plex or XBMC. The base ATV software is feeble, but the hardware is awesome.

The people in power tend to remain in power. In this case that’s the broadcasters and the cable companies. They’ve got too strong of a grip for Apple to be likely to break it.
