I am interested in the project management apps you are using. For me, they have all moved to the cloud in the form of pivotal tracker, basecamp and asana. I don't know if I would consider the client side of these services candidates for this sort of list. But they are certainly an essential part of how I work each day.

I do experiment and try out new apps all the time, but I keep looking for better solutions that fit these five categories. Currently these are the ones in each category I use the most.

Nice list… if you're a professional blogger and your office is Starbucks. Honestly, there are a lot more people who do use spreadsheets every day, all day. I do think the office suites will change eventually, but that is a long way off. What we are seeing now is the addition of note/idea applications (e.g. OneNote) to the current suites. Full blown word processing and spreadsheet applications are not going away anytime soon.

The other new types of applications that are becoming essential are communications (not necessarily social) and project management.

I tried NoteTaker but found it impossible to use as it's so incredibly ugly. Lime-green, yellow and yellow-brown for icon colours? Yech!

The whole application looks like it was hit with an ugly stick or (more likely) that the people who designed it simply have no sense of aesthetics at all.

It was that thought that stopped me using it anymore.
