Doug, you’re a moron. Combined heat and power has been around for more than a century. This doesn’t need to be proven, it needs to be unleashed. There are 80 GW of combined heat and power (CHP) in the United States and hundreds more around the world. The issue in the US is the policies of the MONOPOLISTIC ELECTRIC UTILITY INDUSTRY that PREVENTS this technology from being deployed. Because if this were truly determined by market forces, we would have 3-4X the CHP we currently have. Do some research before you open your pie hole!

You say Obama likes or wants three times in this short piece. Who gives a s**t what Obama wants? He does not have a clue.

How about we let the free market decide what it wants.

Personally, I would love to have a solar panel or windmill that gives me unlimited power, but the reality is the technology does not work yet costwise and as Obama proved pouring a half billion dollars down the Solyndra rat hole, we need to let the free market decide when the technology discussed in the article is ready. Not be subsidized or pushed down someone’s throat by a dictator.

Great piece, but please, let’s all stop quantifying ghg reductions by saying how many cars they take off roads. How does that add to the understanding of the implications?

To most people “taking x cars off the road” simply means “so I can get to work faster”, not, that we all get to keep our current climate.

A better quantifying metric for grownups would be “How close would we get to the U.S. Copenhagen agreement of 17% below 2005 by 2020, by putting 40 GW of CHP online by 2020?

Of course prvention an reduction of energy comes first!! But I cannot imagine a better ambassador for this sympathetic and relatively simple and underestimated “plug and play” solution for saving money and reducing carbon emissions.Companies throwing away their money on > 150.000 m3 gas can make ROI of < 3 or 4 years, while reducing carbon wit even up to 50% for their energy. I gladly support any company to calculate the benifits in their special case. Huub Schoenaker

Not to steer the discussion towards politics, but its remarkable that he is still pushing for these steps in a political year when ‘green energy’ has become a joke by folks patronized by these powerful oil lobby.
