It is in Sprint’s interest that they lure subscribers to Sprint’s revenue stream directly or through its wholly owned subsidiary MVNO partners. Virgin is OWNED by Sprint.

Virgin is wholly owned by Sprint, which effectively makes it one of Sprint’s prepaid brands. So it’s still Sprint selling the iPhone. It stands to lose nothing.

It is funny how different the approach is for the MVOs as they seem to cater and be flexible to the particular niche they are targeting – the exact opposite of the big carriers that oftentimes come off like big bullies. Anyways, glad to see GigaOm devoting attention to this category!

What are you talking about? Virgin mobile (an mvno on sprint) has been selling the iPhone since June.
