I can't wait for this to rollout in CA. For LESS than what I'm paying now for the triple play, I can have full GbE and TV? Who needs a house phone, anyways? That's an insane amount of data for a WAN.

I'll be anxiously awaiting this, not only for homes, but for our business clients. half the cost of T1, half the cost of Comcast's 100Mb/10Mb business class package (currently the fastest in my area). I could jot down a huge list of people I know that will be all over this the day pre-registration opens up.

And just to think about what can get done over networks with GbE piped to my door?
Also, torrents are going to EXPLODE :D

I will definitely be looking forward to this coming to my area. After being excited then let down by U-Verse and it's frequent signal degradation that requires a call at least twice a year to have a technician come out. Stations dropping for no reason. The channel apps that looked cool 3 years ago and just take up space and ruin channel surfing. I could go on.

Very good article. One of the best on this subject that I have read to date. Good insights, quesitons, objective and well orgazined thinking around this. Google is taking numerous risks here which will ultimately benefit us all in the broadband telecom/multi-media business. There will be many lessons learned. Now we just have to all stay tuned and watch what happens....

Google is challenging ATT, Verizon, Comcast and Time Warner to ask for regulatory relief.

Who says Federal regulators can deny communities relief from oppressive, anti competitive regulation if their community ~800 people with urgent needs (like MDs, EMTs, Medical Offices, Labs and Hospitals) cannot petition their local governments for relief now.
